How many times have you had to remove your gloves when you were using your iPhone or iPod Touch this winter?

My answer: way too many times. The touch screen in my iPhone 3G is the best feature ever but I can’t quite get to everything with my gloves on.

That’s when the I was luckily contacted by the creator of this ingenious gloves - Etre Touchy and he sent me these to try on.

Now, this is about the only glove I use when I am out using my iPhone. Etre Touchy gives me a fun and practical way to keep my hands from freezing yet leave my thumb and index fingers open so I can do everything with my iPhone!

IPhone’s camera is pretty good but you can only do so much with it. It’s very good for capturing those special moments when you don’t have a regular camera but capture it with your iPhone. And the native iPhone camera doesn’t have the zoon you’d need to capture distant objects.

One thing that was sorely missing from iPhone 3G was a charging dock. It came with a ultra-compact usb adapter that Apple had to recall and replace it with a newer one.

There are many 3rd party iPhone & iPod Touch docks available in the market that are comparable to Apple’s own. We are going to look at a cool Griffin Simplifi dock which is in fact a 2 port USB hub, a docking station and a card reader - all in one.

Apple’s dock sells for $30 but with Griffin Simplifi has a little extra nice features like the usb port hub and a card reader. Amazon sells Simplifi for Iphone 3G / Ipod for $39.96 (at the time of writing) and will set you back a few extra dollars but this is a rather nice accessory that does look nice. It certainly would help de-clutter your desktop off a few things like card reader and free up a USB port or two.

Just a quick reminder for our iPhone 3G readers. Apple has an iPhone 3G Ultracompact USB adapter exchange program because of faulty USB adapters shipped out earlier.

We received our new adapter after ordering via the web in just under 4 days. Apple also sent a postage paid box to ship the old usb adapter back to them. The new adapter has a green sticker in it to help you distinguish it.

We didn’t have a Apple store in our town or we could have just went there to exchange it. Make sure you get the replacement!

If your car doesn’t have an audio in jack, you are going to love this. A FM transmitter can broadcast your iPhone/iPod Touch music wirelessly to your FM car/home stereo. You just plug the FM transmitter into the dock connection and start playing your music.

One thing I am still getting used to with my iPhone 3g is using it optimally while driving my car. Our car has a audio-in which I use often by plugging my iPhone and listening to Pandora via car’s speakers. But, there is no real hold for the iPhone while I am turning or breaking hard, etc. And I hate it when its tossing around.

PhoneFlix is a free iPhone app that lets you view and manage your Netflix queue right from your iPhone or iPod Touch. Although PhoneFlix isn’t affiliated to Netflix in any way, it lets you login to your Netflix account and manage your queue. Plus, you can see your recent activity, recommendations and reviews as well.

You also get to browse through Netflix’s catalog of over 100,000 movies, documentaries and TV shows. I liked the fact that I could browse by movie categories, TV shows, Top 100 movies and pretty much all the top menu items in the Netflix website from my iPhone.

It looks like some folks have trouble logging into their Netflix account via PhoneFlix, but they are working to resolve it. Let us know it worked for you.

Just a quick note though, if after putting in your username and password, if it seems like you are still on the same screen, you probably typed in username or password wrong. It doesn’t give you an error.

Apple has announced an Exchange program for the Ultracompact USB Power Adapters that came with iPhone 3Gs for the following reason:

Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock.  We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.

Your adapter may be at risk if you purchased a iPhone 3g in one of the following countries

• US
• Japan
• Canada
• Mexico
• Several Latin American countries (full list)

Or you might even have purchased it as an accessory. If yours has a green dot like in the picture, you are fine.

Exchange Process

Replacement adapters will be available starting Friday October 10, 2008. There are 2 ways to get your adapter replaced with a new one.

• Order online. You will get them within 3 weeks of your order, starting Oct 10. You will get a shipment box to send in your old adapter. You’d need your iPhone’s serial number to place an order online.
• Exchange your adapter at an Apple Retail Store starting on Oct 10.

This is fine and dandy but Apple doesn’t say what they will do about the few adapters that do break before we get to exchange it on or after Oct 10. Are we just out of luck?
