This app is a catch all for all of those membership cards you have floating around. You can even add library cards. With built in support for just about any loyalty card using establishment that I have heard of, and many I haven’t, it’s easy to input your card numbers for easy access. You can choose from one of the already know card types, or input a custom card. There are nine different barcode types to choose from when adding a custom card which will accommodate almost any barcode.

Once you have all your cards added you can select the card you need from the main screen, and it displays the barcode. If you turn your phone upside down, you can enter the gas/kiosk mode, which puts the barcode closer to the top of the screen, for easier access. And now you can store all your cards at home, and still have access to them whenever you need them. You can also go to the info tab of a card and get a link to the stores home page/member account page, place a call to their customer service, or press the store locator for locations (this feature is broken, and does not display locations near your position).

I would recommend this app to anyone carrying too many cards in their wallet, or on their keychain. The description in the app store says the next update includes “iOS4 compatibility, fast app switching, hi-res icons, cloud backup and much more.” The best part of this, in my opinion, is going to be the cloud backup. I have had to restore my phone, and most recently I upgraded my phone, and have had to manually re-enter all my numbers, which wasn’t fun. Another feature that would be great, but hasn’t been mentioned, would be to scan in your barcode with the camera.

I use Firefox as my primary browser on my desktop becuase it can be such a powerful tool with some of the best firefox extensions making it an amazing tool for blogging, web development, productivity and just surfing for fun.

Firefox Home iPhone app is designed to be used as a get up and go app with everything waiting for you on your iPhone.

You can be working on your desktop Firefox at work and when you are ready to go home, just pick up your iPhone and your Firefox Home will have all your bookmarks, history and even open tabs just as you had left them on your desktop computer.

If you are worried about all this info going over the air, Firefox Home traffic is secure from end to end.

To get started you need to have Firefox Sync add-on installed on your desktop Firefox. You need to create an account with password and a passphrase. Once you have that sync setup in your browser, your data will exist in the cloud.

Now, install your Firefox Home free iPhone app and enter your login credentials. Now, sit back and enjoy the instantaneous sync between your desktop and your iPhone browser!

What Firefox Home is not!

Firefox Home is not an alternative to Safari mobile browser. It is not a full fledged browser like Opera Mini. You can however use it as an extension of your Firefox desktop. You can search and browse through your history and bookmarks and tabs. But, you can’t use it as a traditional browser app. I am a little curious as to why Firefox chose to do this instead of doing a Firefox Fennec (mobile browser) for iPhone.

But, I am happy with Firefox Home iPhone app as is.

Do you know the best station to transmit on, even when travelling? I do!

ClearFM iPhone app is a simple, time saving solution to determine the best station to transmit on in a given area. Just input your current city and state and this app will tell you what stations are optimal for broadcast clarity, it even has a visual graph that shows the predicted signal strength across the band.

Tune your transmitter to transmit on a vacant station and enjoy knowing you will have the least interference. I’ve used this on a few road trips and its been very handy. Being free to download from the app store, it’s hard to go wrong here.

Getting your transmitter to work with and charge your phone, while not getting annoying error messages, is another story.

Apple Store iPhone App

Right on the day Apple opened up pre-orders for iPhone 4, they released the Apple Store iPhone app. In fact, a lot of people who were dejected from trying to pre-order from Apple’s website in vain were delighted to see they could reserve an iPhone 4 for pickup at an Apple Store with the Apple Store iPhone app!

With the app, you could see new and featured products from Apple, shop the full selection of products available in the Apple Online Store. You can also find the latest accessories and software, read customer reviews.

You can also locate an Apple Store anywhere in the world. You can also sign up for one to one appointments, Genius Bar, workshops and events at Apple Retail Stores.

This is a handy little app to have in your iPhone for all your Apple needs. I am just surprised it took Apple this long to release one when other retailers have been churning them out by the dozens.

Find My iPhone

This is great news for Mobile Me subscribers. If you are one, you are already familiar with the ‘Find My iPhone’ service that shows the location of your iPhone on a Map.

With this service, if you ever lose your iPhone or can’t locate it you can track your iPhone through GPS or use WiFi triangulation if GPS isn’t available. You could send alert messages to see if you can get the person holding it return it to you. As a last measure you can atleast protect your data by remotely wiping the iPhone.

Now you get the same features with this iPhone app. You just sign in with your MobileMe username and password to locate your device on a map. You can remotely lock the device too.

I think this is great for times when you are on the road or out on town and lost your iPhone. You could get on your friends iPhone and quickly locate your iPhone.

As a reminder, this app requires you to have a MobileMe subscription to use the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature.

Flash vs HTML 5 is a separate debate altogether but if you are one who wants to see majority of the content on the web with your iPhone, you are out of luck.

Until now.

Cloud Browse is an interesting & free iPhone app available in the App Store. Cloud Browse promises to get you access to Flash and java based content on your iPhone.

Cloud Browse is basically a shared Firefox browser instance on a remote computer. So, all the Flash content is processes off your iPhone and Cloud Browse displays the Flash Content in your iDevice.

As you can expect, the quality isn’t there. The videos are choppy and with lags at best.

But, I have give the developer(s) a hat tip for trying to give the users a workaround to viewing Flash on their iPhone. It’s not perfect but it’s still an usable solution for that rarest occasions.

Note: This works via anonymous proxies and are blocked by sites like Hulu.

Firefox for iPhone is called Firefox Home (why?) and is coming next month!

Firefox Home is to provide the users instant access to their browser history, bookmarks and set of tabs from their most recent browser session. It also provides the ‘Awesome Bar’ capability on your iPhone.

Firefox Home is encrypted end to end so you can use it as a ‘get up and go’ browser. This is incredible as you can be working on a few tabs at work and when you leave home you can pick up on it on your iPhone.

Here is a preliminary, non-branded sneak peek of Firefox Home in action.

I am a huge fan of Firefox and I am way more excited for this to be available than when Opera came out for iPhone.

Also, Firefox Home for iPad would make this deal even sweeter and i am sure the folks at Mozilla are already working on it.

But, there is an app that could be called the original barcode scanner for mobile phones that was very popular with Android – ShopSavvy.

I tried scanning a book I had near me and it instantly popped up in ShopSavvy as you can see in the screenshots.
