It’s plainly an incredible iPhone OS release with over 100 new features and over 1000 new APIs for iPhone developers. With the imminent competition from Palm Pre in the coming months, Apple has answered back addressing a lot of the long overdue features such as copy/paste, push notification, MMS, etc.
iPhone OS 3.0 will be a free upgrade to iPhone 3G users. iPhone 2G users can also upgrade to 3.0 but won’t have some features like A2DP due to hardware limitations.
iPod Touch 2G users can also upgrade to iPhone 3.0 by paying $9.95. Also, the Bluetooth has been unlocked in iPod Touch in 3.0 firmware.
Apple has again proved that they can listen to their users and respond back, albeit in this instance a little late. If this is a little too late remains to be seen. But, I can’t wait to get my hands on iPhone OS 3.0 that’s set to come out this Summer of ’09.

I’m pretty stoked about the new features. My phone is installing the beta firmware right now. I can’t wait to see it in action.
… and I guess I can wait for all of the bugs to start surfacing
Its definitely a good move by Apple to include all these features in version 3.0. But really they should have just implemented these when they first came out with the iPhone 3G since they had time to listen to these feedback for a long time with their first generation iPhone. Apple does listen to customers – but implements their suggestions way too slow. There is a danger of calling them arrogant and they might already be labeled that!

I love the fact that we are now able to download more content in your existing apps, like purchasing additional features in games.

It’s a pity that we had to wait that long to get the most basic things like copy/paste and wider use of landscape keyboard. But it’s no surprise – they were bound to introduce those features sooner or later. I love the idea of “shake to shuffle” however. Though I hope there’ll be a possibility to turn it off – when I’m biking the songs would be changing every 5 seconds if all it takes is a little shake and I wouldn’t appreciate that in the slightest.
Whew that’s great features and really love to have that on my new iPhone. Is this OS version will be distributed for free? My guess its not!
