After much waiting and anticipation and a lot of guess work from folks who had access to 2.2 beta, iPhone firmware update 2.2 is here via iTunes.
Confirming rumors of Apple’s 2.2 firmware release of today, it was in fact made available last night!
Here are some of the new things iPhone 2.2 firmware brings:
iPhone 2.2 Software Update
This update contains many bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
- Enhancements to Maps
- Google Street View
- public transit and walking directions
- display address of dropped pins
- share location via email
- Enhancements to Mail
- resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
- improved formatting of wide HTML email
- Improved stability and performance of Safari
- Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
- Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
- Improved sound quality of visual voicemail messages
- Pressing the Home button from any Home screen takes you to the first Home screen
- Preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings

iPhone Jailbreak Users – Do not update
Watch out for an upcoming post with full details on this. In short, if you have a jailbreak iPhone or iPhone 3G, do not update to firmware 2.2 at this time. Or if you want to soft unlock your iPhone in the future, do not update to 2.2 firmware yet.

i need to find out how to get my music / movies on my iphone 3g that is jailbroken & unlocked my music movies is on itunes and if i do that itunes will ask me to resync the iphone please help me at joe.cousino@yahoo.com
