Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T Eases Hotspot Access

Posted by shriya On December - 3 - 2008

DeviceScape has had the Easy Wi-Fi app for $1.99 for a while. It allowed you to login to a Wi-Fi hotspot without opening your Safari browser on iPhone to enter your login credentials.

Now, Easy Wi-fi for AT&T simplifies your access to AT&T hotspot locations with ATTcellphones. To access a AT&T Wi-fi hotspot, you just imply access the Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T app, and you are automatically logged in.

And you don’t have to wait for a SMS code after registering via Safari. I don’t see this as any different from the earlier Easy Wi-Fi App but this one looks to be for the US consumers and AT&T specific.

One reason to grab this today is because it’s FREE instead of it’s original price $1.99 until Dec 5, 2008.

Devicescape also works on Mac OSX Powerbooks, Nokia N810, Nokia S60 series, Nokia N 800, Windows Mobile & Windows Laptops.

Manage Wi-Fi Accounts with Easy Wi-Fi

Posted by shriya On October - 14 - 2008

One cool thing about the iPhone or the new iPod Touch is the ability to use the Wi-Fi at any hotspots. This is especially great when you are traveling. But, some of the Wi-Fi hotspots require you to go into Safari and login.

DeviceScape’s Easy Wi-Fi app lets you manage your Wi-Fi accounts in one place and lets you login to a Wi-Fi hotspot without opening Safari. Plus, you don’t have to remember usernames and passwords either.

Easy Wi-Fi supports thousands of networks including commercial networks at airports and hotels, small coffee shops and retail chains like Starbucks and Panera, City-wide commercial and free networks as well as campus-wide university networks.

In case you don’t find a free network already, you can send Devicescape the info and they will add it for free. There is one limitation where iPhone/iPod Touch doesn’t let DeviceScape add networks to the preferred network list (home/private networks).

Easy Wi-Fi sells for $1.99 in AppStore and it is FREE for a limited time. So, grab it right now.

Free Wi-Fi for US AT&T iPhone Customers? Not yet.

Posted by karthik On July - 18 - 2008

The news that AT&T has opened up it’s wi-fi hotspots to their US iPhone customers for free around the country has been buzzing around today. And this is not the first time either.

AT&T has annonuced this, taken back before. It started again this morning when someone spotted a page on AT&T’s website announcing this. But, later in the day after this news made the rounds a AT&T spokesperson has denied that they have nothing to announce yet and have pulled the incriminating page since.

Free Wi-FI for AT&T DSL Customers

We have had free Wi-Fi from AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots around the country for being their DSL customers. And this deal has been around for a long time.

So, I am assuming we would have access to their Wi-Fi hotspots via our iPhone too. This is not too shabby considering AT&T offers some nice DSL rates with no home phone & no contract required. Yep, it’s gotta sexy name too - Naked DSL!

You could get a 1.5 Mbps DSL connection for $35/month with no contract.

The page that was leaked this morning is an indication that AT&T is planning to offer this to their iPhone customers as well in the near future.

But, with the expanding 3G network and free wi-fi at coffee shops and Panera Bread and other joints everywhere, this is probably not such a big deal as it is made out to be.

What do you think about this?

Finding Wi-Fi hotspots with iPhone

Posted by shriya On July - 1 - 2007

I’m sure you are excited so much about the Wi-Fi capability of the shiny new iPhone and can’t wait to get on the web with your phone while you are everywhere just showing off.

You can get on the web with either AT&T’s EDGE network which you get unlimited access with any of the iPlans or use Wi-Fi. But, EDGE network is supposedly slow as a snail on a slippery wall. So, Wi-Fi is the way to go for your web needs on the iPhone if you can get access to it.

MacWorld has an excellent roundup on all options available with Wi-Fi. A few notable ones being

  • Sites to locate free Wi-Fi hotspots like JIWire and Wi-Fi FreeSpot.
  • A low cost/free grassroots Wi-Fi network called FON network.
  • Large number of public libraries.

Read the complete article to get a full dose of Wi-Fi options goodness.
